Four Towns Bus

Bus Schedule

An ex-London double decker bus has been transformed into a multi-purpose community vehicle with a private meeting room, internet accessible computer suite, 42" plasma TV with surround sound, DVD and Playstation2.

The Four Towns Bus Project provides an informal meeting place, an information and advice resource and a venue for workshops, training, creative arts, study groups and social activities on a rotational basis between the locations.

A typical week would be Thursday in Southwold parked outside the United Reformed Church followed by Sunday in Beccles in the Rainbow supermarket car park. The bus offers leaflet advice on drugs, alcohol, sexual health and other services.

During the day the bus is being used by groups like Waveney Women's Health, Adult Education and the Citizens Advice Bureau.

The towns say the response so far has been phenomenal and other parts of Suffolk are now looking at setting up similar schemes. Funding came from the Big Lottery, Suffolk County Council, the Crime Disorder and Reduction Partnership, Tobin Plant Hire and other local businesses.

The idea for the Bus Project was hatched about two years ago by the Halesworth Crime Reduction Panel when it was recognised that a drop-in centre for young people was desperately needed in the evenings due to the lack of youth clubs.

Working in partnership with a range of organisations, local councillors and individuals, Waveney Community Forum cvs is proud of its Four Towns Bus initiative, set up to serve all age groups across the four market towns and neighbouring villages.
